| Explaination of term used in the Application Form |
| COMPETITIVE CMTE. DRAWS...DUH! Sometimes curling lingo can be difficult to understand. The following list of commonly used terms should help to make the registration form understandable. Competitive Committee Draws: The Match Committee (members of the curling committee who draw up the schedule) make up the four member team of curlers. Those teams compete each week and gain points each time they win a game. Sometimes points are awarded with the number of ends they win. Sometimes points are awarded with a game win. Competitive Men's. Women's or Mixed Teams: Four members enter a team. This team may be made up of women only, men only, or a mix of the two. The match committee will schedule the teams to play throughout the season and points are awarded as above. If a ladder system is used, the winners will eventually play winners, while the losers play losers. Mixed Curling (competitive Committee Draws): The match committee will make up teams comprised of two men and two women. Couples are usually kept together unless otherwise directed by the couple themselves. Mixed Recreational (teams made up upon arrival): Women, men or couples who arrive at the rink will place their names on a board. Once all have arrived, a designated member of the curling rink will arrange the teams from those present. Points aren't awarded for wins or losses. Curling is played for fun only. This is a great way to meet and socialize with others. Friendlies: are prearranged days where senior teams from various curling clubs are invited to curl at a local club. The teams usually curl twice. Points are awarded by ends won and winners play winners, resulting in one winning team. Small donated prizes are awarded, a luncheon is provided by the hosting club, and a good time is had by all. Bonspiels: Any member of the curling club may join a Bonspiel. Bonspiels are held throughout the year, both within our own club(interclub), and with members of other clubs(invitational). Teams play throughout the day as scheduled by the Bonspiel Committee. Usually each team plays twice, and often a meal is included (sometimes catered, sometimes pot luck). Prizes are awarded at the end of the evening (usually solicited by members and donated by local organizations). Spares: If you are scheduled to play on a team on a weekly basis, or if you have signed up for a Friendly or Bonspiel, and cannot attend the event, it is your responsibility to arrange for a Spare to take your place. We will have a list of people who are interested in becoming spares. Intermediate Unlimited: Although the age of intermediate (16-21) does overlap with the Junior category, the unlimited portion of this title, allows that age group to compete in additional curling activities throughout the season. If male, they could curl with the men on days or nights specified, or on a team, or in the mixed. Similarly, if female, they can enter female events. Student cards are a necessary identification for this category. The North Grenville Curling Club click here to download a pdf copy of Explaination of Terms |
